Maple Bacon Popcorn

Beer Pairing: This tasty treat would pair well with a Barleywine; pick up a 6-pack or fill your growler in the beer department!


• 5 cups air-popped popcorn, lightly salted
• ½ cup Great River maple syrup
• 5 slices of Webster City Smoked Slab bacon
• 1 tablespoon bacon fat, reserved from pan


1. Fry bacon in skillet. Once crispy, remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate.

2. Reserve one tablespoon of bacon fat from the skillet and set aside.

3. Once cooled, crumble bacon into small pieces.

4. Lightly coat the inside of a large mixing bowl and a mixing spoon with reserved bacon fat. Combine popcorn and bacon in greased bowl and set aside.

5. Using a heavy, non-reactive saucepot over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low and continue boiling until the mixture reaches 236 degrees on a candy thermometer.

6. Drizzle hot maple syrup over the popcorn and bacon mixture. Working quickly, stir with greased mixing spoon until all popcorn is coated with maple syrup.

7. Cool and store in the refrigerator or enjoy immediately.
